The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities is a component of the Florida State University Dean of Students Department and the Division of Student Affairs. The office is responsible for educating students about their rights and responsibilities as members of the FSU community, upholding community behavioral standards, and implementing the Student Conduct Code.

Mission Statement

The Florida State University Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) mission is to facilitate student learning and development regarding community standards by balancing individual and community rights. SRR supports a safe and inclusive environment that enhances academic pursuits and student success. Institutional core values of the Seminole Creed and Responsible Freedom guide our conduct and inform policy and decisions.

Goals

The goals of SRR include:

  • developing, informing, and enforcing campus policies and procedures as it relates to student conduct
  • protecting the rights of students and individuals in the community
  • providing fundamental fairness and objective review of student behavior
  • promoting and encouraging student involvement in and respect for campus governance through student conduct boards
  • fostering learning opportunities through student conduct procedures and educational sanctions
  • creating a respectful atmosphere which encourages open communication of values and ethical behavior
  • initiating educational programs that strive to minimize conduct policy violations

Philosophy of Discipline

A humanistic approach to discipline is used whenever possible. The University judicial system and appeals processes are designed to provide and help maintain an atmosphere within the University community that is conducive to academic pursuits. Serious disciplinary action against a student, such as separation, is considered and invoked only when other options fail to meet the needs of the University's mission.

Location

Our office is located in room A4313 in the Dean of Students Department on the 4th floor of University Center A on the Northeast side of Doak Campbell Stadium.
